Pavement Ants

Pavement Ants are brown or black in color and anywhere from 1/10th to 1/8th of an inch in length. They usually will nest under sidewalks and driveways, it is rare for them to live within your home but when they do they can be found under the insulation of your carpet and in wooden and brick walls. Usually they will nest outside of your home and venture in to find food which they will transport back to their nest. In your kitchen is where you will most likely find these ants, foraging for food and they will eat just about anything that people eat. Once they establish a nest they will multiply very quickly, rapidly increasing the size of their nest. In addition to insecticides that can be sprayed outside of your home on the nesting areas it is a good idea to look for cracks in the walls and windowsills, where the ants are entering your home and to caulk these areas.
